Gravitational waves from superradiant instabilities of rotating black holes

چکیده
Direct detection of gravitational waves from several compact binary coalescences has ushered in a new era astronomy. It opened up the possibility detecting ultralight bosons, predicted by extensions Standard Model, their signatures. This is particular interest as some these hypothetical particles could be components dark matter that are expected to interact very weakly with Model particles, if at all, but they would gravitate usual. Ultralight bosons can trigger superradiant instabilities rotating black holes and form bosonic clouds emit waves. In this article we present an overview such wave sources assess ability current future detectors shed light on potential candidates.

Polarization of Long-Wavelength Gravitational Waves by Rotating Black Holes
The scattering cross section for a long-wavelength planar gravitational wave impinging upon a rotating black hole is calculated, for the special case in which the direction of incidence is aligned with the rotation axis. We show that black hole rotation leads to a term in the cross section that is proportional to aω. Hence, contrary to some claims, co-rotating and counter-rotating helicities ar...
متن کاملSuperradiant instabilities of rotating black branes and strings
Black branes and strings are generally unstable against a certain sector of gravitational perturbations. This is known as the Gregory-Laflamme instability. It has been recently argued [1, 2] that there exists another general instability affecting many rotating extended black objects. This instability is in a sense universal, in that it is triggered by any massless field, and not just gravitatio...
متن کاملGravitational Waves from Rotating Black Strings
In the Randall-Sundrum two-brane model (RS1), a Kerr black hole on the brane can be naturally identified with a section of rotating black string. To estimate KaluzaKlein (KK) corrections on gravitational waves emitted by perturbed rotating black strings, we give the effective Teukolsky equation on the brane which is separable equation and hence numerically manageable. In this process, we derive...

Binary black holes are the most promising candidate sources for the first generation of earth-based interferometric gravitational-wave detectors. We summarize and discuss the state-of-the-art analytic techniques developed during the last years to better describe the late dynamical evolution of binary black holes of comparable masses. متن کاملGravitational waves versus black holes
It is argued that, in order for the gravitational field to be propagated as a wave, it is necessary for it to satisfy a further set of field equations, in addition to those of Einstein and Hilbert, and these equations mean there is a preferred coordinate frame, called the Global Inertial Frame, giving rise to a unique metric . The implication is that a true gravitational field is not compatible...
